How can you get the best child support arrangements set up?

120339154_s (1).jpgYou know that it's important to protect your children. You know that they are your responsibility and that you should cover child support since you won't have them in your care a majority of the time.

The only problem you have is that the amount of your support is far too high. Your financial circumstances aren't quite the same as they once were. What can you do? How can you still have a good quality of life while providing for your child?

Negotiate with the other parent

The first thing to consider is talking to your child's other parent about your concerns. You may not have as much as they'd like for support. Can you find a middle ground? What can you freely offer? Be honest and straightforward, and you may see them come around to an agreement. Your child's other parent can't guarantee that the court will allow a reduced amount, but it may help if they don't oppose it.

Take your case to the court

If you are paying more child support than you can afford due to circumstances beyond your control, then it may be time to seek a modification. Your attorney will work with you to try to help you reach an agreement you can live with. You may need to go to court if you want to pay less than what would be standard. Show your bills, responsibilities and other things that may influence the money you have available for support. Honesty is the best policy, and the judge may be able to help you set up a fair amount of support.
