Going through a divorce is never easy, even when both parties are on the same page. However, the process can be even more difficult when your spouse was responsible for initiating the divorce. Join groups, take up hobbies, or contact friends you’ve fallen out of touch with. A robust social circle is integral to helping you heal, while also taking your mind off what you’ve been through.

While you’ll naturally want to enter into a relationship at some point, don’t rush it. Derive some joy out of being single, even if it’s just having access to both sides of the bed for a change. You must heal before you pursue a new relationship, or you run the risk of experiencing the same problems you did previously. Taking your time will also help you avoid the dreaded rebound relationship, which almost always ends badly.

Most importantly, take the time to get reacquainted with yourself. It’s easy to lose yourself during the course of a relationship, especially if your marriage lasted a long time.
